Words&Music Tom Acton comes from Dublin, he is a singer/songwriter/ musician published poet.Whereas his inspiration is rooted in The Irish Tradition and Culture, his musical influences are many and varied, believing that the modern can add to the tradition in Irish music. From the 17th century writer Richard Sheridan, to the 20th century traveling musician Johnny Doran. Accompanied by 8 top musicians Tom took the time to hone each song into the way it had to be told. Tom began playing in the folk clubs of Dublin, he then became a rambling Irishman moving across Europe playing his music. In the end of the 80's he set up a folk club in Holland, booking many International top acts, including Derroll Adams from the USA. Unable to stay put for long Tom went on the road with the banjo player gigging across Europe. Gigging with Derroll Adams brought Tom in contact with the great American folk Culture. Derroll has gigged and recorded with Rambling Jack Elliott and in featured in the Bob Dylan Doc: Don't Look Back. In 2001 Tom was invited to read his poetry in The Chamber of Commerce Dublin, after which his poetry was published in an anthology of Irish poets. Some of the poems he inter weaved into songs, and teaming up with award winning musicians recorded Dark River Tumbling, a debut CD of 12 original songs. After the success of Dark River Tumbling, Tom set about write writing for his new CD: Down The Irish Gravel Road was released in August 08.
