Pine Trees
I often have this feeling
Like I was just too late
Waking up too slowly
Letting you slip away
Sunrise turns to sunset
There’s not much in between
There was a time when I believed there lied a whole infinity
I could have run all the way
Through rising day and darkening night
And still I wouldn’t have made it there in time
To stop you and change your mind
I sometimes get a feeling
Like you’re right next to me
But when I turn my head There’s nothing
But an empty passenger’s seat
I have to pull over to calm my racing heart
I won’t play your records anymore the silence that follows is too hard
I could have run all the way
Through rising day and darkening night
And still I wouldn’t have made it there in time
To stop you and change your mind
Now there’s no reason to run no more
So I just sit here by the window
Ivy grows through my front porch
Pine trees reaching higher every year
I don’t mind the years
I can pick the apples when they fall
But I will never stop seeing your shadow walking by the door
I could have run all the way
Through rising day and darkening night
And still I wouldn’t have made it there in time
To stop you and change your mind
