People from all walks of life lost in the beat

A hand brushes across my lower back

Catching glimpses of secrets

Checking noses wiping away traces of white dust

Lingering in the air a haze of desire and despair

Into the dark

I feel a deep sorrow for the girl was silent suffering etched on her face

Her body a delicate flower

She never learned how to be treated right

I feel the weight of sadness for the woman in pricey lingerie

With synthetic wigs hiding her true self

An educated soul drowning in debt

Turning tricks just to get by

I feel a heavy heart for the girl with borrowed hair extensions

And large expressive eyes

Her charming accent and broken English can’t hide

Her dependancy on drugs and predatory gaze

Standing here lost in this labyrinth of bodies

Lights and shadows

Searching for something real in this chaos

Will I ever get out or is this my fate

The thought of a conventional life feels like a prison

Or maybe this is where I’m supposed to be
