This powerful and emotional rendition of Horace Tapscott's "Warrriors All" was recorded by The Gathering as part of their Leimert Park: Roots and Branches of Los Angeles Jazz album. It is a dynamic piece that combines a unique march with a flowing and melodic dirge over a long crescendoed build. Due limits on the length of the CD it was not able to be released as part of the CD. It has instead been put out as a digital release only.
All proceeds from the sale of this song will go to UGMAA (Union of God's Musicians and Artists Ascension) and the Tapscott Family. The Tapscott Family, Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, and UGMAA have been carrying on the legacy of Horace Tapscott since his passing in 1999 and have been dedicated to preserving the music of Horace Tapscott, The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, as well as music from many other local composers since 1961 when the group was founded.
This song was recorded at the end of a long day under bright and hot lights for the video footage being shot and the musicians really were like Warriors All as they dug deep down and really put their heartfelt all into this performance. Many of The Gathering members there that day were long time members of The Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra and others had a deep connection and reverence for Horace's vision of music as a force to bring communities and people together.
