Merrimack Records, LLC is dedicated to providing listeners with the very heart and soul of American roots music: everything from the backcountry sounds of Blues, Folk, and Country, to the city-inspired vitality of Jazz and Rock ‘n’ Roll, showcasing some of the most exciting musical artists today.
Regatta, Merrimack Record’s dazzling 1994 album, was produced by composer Cobb Bussinger and Merrimack Founder Joe Melnikas. Deftly incorporating elements of Samba, Calypso, and Latin Jazz into New Age pop arrangements, Bussinger and Melnikas’s vivid songwriting blossoms into rich soundscapes, thanks to the buttery tenor voice of celebrated Jazz vocalist Michael Martin, as well as the dreamy melodies provided on keyboard by Bussinger himself. Original songs include effervescent pop numbers like “Melody Man”, “In the Movies”, and the title track, “Regatta”, supported by stirring instrumental ballads like “Elizabeth’s Theme” and scintillating Latin ditties like “Columbian Café”. The unforgettable Samba arrangement “Bip Bam Bou” features Calypso legend Sir Lancelot Pinard on vocals and guitar, backed up by Steve Loza on piano, David Such on flute, and a charged conga beat that is sure to get you out of your chair.
